Quoted by DMV Classical as having “a consistently lovely tone and [taking] her melodic twists and turns with stylish assurance,” Emily Tsai began studying violin at the age of four and oboe at ten. She won 2nd place in the Eastman Oboe and University of Maryland Concerto Competitions where she performed with the University of Maryland Symphony Orchestra with added dance choreography. Ms. Tsai is Principal English Horn in the Peoria Symphony Orchestra and oboist in the Patagonia Winds and Duo d’Amore, a frequent performer in Riversdale Mansion Chamber Music Series, and a member of Gourmet Symphony, where orchestral and chamber concerts are paired with gourmet meals. She has performed with the National Philharmonic, Amadeus Orchestra, Alexandria Symphony, Arlington Symphony and the McLean Symphony Orchestra. Ms. Tsai is a faculty member of Washington Conservatory of Music and an adjunct faculty member at Holton-Arms School. A graduate of Eastman School of Music, she has studied with Mark Hill, Richard Killmer, and Malcolm Smith as well as at AIMs Festival in Austria, Mortizburg Music Festival in Germany, Alba Music Festival in Italy, and Sarasota Music Festival, under such prominent oboists as Neil Black, Allan Vogel, Richard Killmer, Werner Herbers, Randall Ellis, John Ferillo, and Robert Sheena.
