DESCRIPTION:Kicking off our Faculty Chamber Music Series is internationally acclaimed soprano Esther Tonea and US Navy Band principal harpist Madeline Jarzembak\, both graduates of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. Our Faculty Chamber Music Series are free-will fundraisers for this incredible series and all the conservatory has to offer. Light reception to follow. \nEsther Tonea \nThe San Francisco Chronicle praised Romanian-American soprano Esther Tonea for her “powerful\, gleaming tone\, effortless precision and expressive immediacy” in her rendition of Imogene’s mad scene from Bellini’s Il pirata\, where she displayed the “sublime assurance of an established diva.” Esther is a recent Adler Fellow at San Francisco Opera and Grand Finals Winner of the National Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition. \nMost recently\, Esther performed the roles of Donna Anna in Mozart’s Don Giovanni at Opéra Orchestre National Montpellier\, Rosalinde in Johann Strauss II’s Die Fledermaus at Florida Grand Opera and Washington Opera Society\, Iolanta in Tchaikovsky’s Iolanta and Tatiana in Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin with the Russian Chamber Arts Society\, Marie in Les Mousquetaires au Couvent and Laoula in L’étoile with L’opéra Comique de Washington\, and Juliette in Roméo et Juliette with Bel Cantanti Opera. Recent and upcoming recitals include Romanian recitals with the Nicolae Bretan Music Foundation\, Russian love songs for Valentine’s Day in Love Me\, Love Me Not with her fiancé tenor Dashiell Waterbury and pianist Vera Danchenko-Stern\, A European Christmas with pianist James Sparks\, and recitals with US Navy Band principal harpist Madeline Jarzembak.  \nRecently\, Esther also joined Opéra Orchestra National Montpellier for Brahms’ Ein Deutsches Requiem\, Stanford Summer Symphony and Chorus for Mendelssohn’s Symphony No. 2 (Lobgesang)\, City Choir of Washington for Haydn’s The Creation\, the Santa Rosa Symphony for Mahler’s Symphony No. 2 and the world premiere of Warum hast du Gelitten? by Jonathan Leshnoff\, and Richmond Ballet in two tour performances of Carmina Burana with the Charleston Symphony and Richmond Symphony. She also joined Atlanta Opera for Jake Heggie’s Another Sunrise\, and Wolf Trap Opera as a Filene Artist for the title role of Semele. A frequent collaborator with composer-librettist duo Jake Heggie and Gene Scheer\, Tonea premiered the role of Diana in If I Were You with the Merola Opera Program and workshopped Intelligence as Callie Van Lew with Houston Grand Opera.  \nTo follow her future engagements\, visit www.esthertonea.com. Esther is represented by Guy Barzilay Artists. \nMadeline Jarzembak\, Harp \nMadeline Jarzembak\, from Philadelphia\, Pennsylvania\, holds a Bachelor of Music from the Curtis Institute of Music and a Master of Music from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. Principal Harp in the U.S. Navy Band\, Jarzembak previously served as principal harp in the Santa Cruz Symphony and Stockton Symphony Orchestras. She has performed as a member of the Philadelphia Orchestra\, San Francisco Symphony\, Baltimore Symphony\, Reno Philharmonic\, Fairfax Symphony\, Maryland Symphony\, Oakland Symphony\, among others\, working under the baton of Charles Dutoit\, Simon Rattle\, Valery Gergiev\, Michael Tilson Thomas and others. \nAs a soloist\, Jarzembak performed with members of the Philadelphia Orchestra\, Delaware Symphony\, Stockton Symphony\, Symphony in C\, Orchestra 2001\, Philadelphia Classical Symphony and  Independence Sinfonia. A 2017 Lyon & Healy Awards winner\, Jarzembak has performed extensively across the United States and Europe. In 2009\, she was a finalist and awarded the “Jury’s Diplome” at the International Harp Competition “Golden Harp” in St. Petersburg\, Russia. Jarzembak won prizes at American Harp Society Competitions both locally and nationally. She performed at the Focus on Youth concerts at the World Harp Congress and on NPR’s “From the Top.”

DESCRIPTION:Come celebrate J.S. Bach’s 342nd birthday with the Washington Conservatory of Music during our Bach Birthday Bash! On April 4 from 1-5 PM at the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer in Bethesda\, we’ll gather for an informal recital\, a festive sight-reading party\, and of course\, cake!  \nWhether you’re new to the “grandfather of classical music” or a devoted Bach fan\, performers of all levels – including students\, parents\, faculty\, and friends – are warmly welcome. Join us for an afternoon of music\, celebration\, and plenty of Bach. Anyone wishing to perform a piece by J.S. Bach is invited to submit this form with program information by March 25. The more the merrier – what better way to celebrate Bach than by exploring and sharing his music! \nThis event will also feature performers in our Baroque Orchestra Workshop! SUMMARY:Faculty Chamber Music Series: Concert with Pianists Audrey Andrist and Ardita Statovci
DESCRIPTION:Mark your calendars and stay tuned for more program information! WCM Piano Faculty Audrey Andrist and Ardita Statovci will present a piano four hands concert. \n  \nHailed as a “stunning pianist with incredible dexterity”\, Canadian pianist Audrey Andrist has thrilled audiences around the globe\, from North America to Japan\, China and Germany with her “passionate abandon” and “great intelligence.” Ms. Andrist grew up on a farm in Saskatchewan\, and while in high school traveled three hours one-way for lessons with William Moore\, himself a former student of famed musicians Cécile Genhart and Rosina Lhévinne. She completed Masters and Doctoral degrees at the Juilliard School with Herbert Stessin\, and won first prizes at the Mozart International\, San Antonio International\, Eckhardt-Gramatté\, and Juilliard Concerto Competitions. She is the principal pianist of ROCO in Houston\, Texas and of the PostClassical Ensemble in Washington\, DC. She is a member of the Stern/Andrist Duo with her husband\, violinist James Stern; Strata\, with her husband and Nathan Williams\, clarinet\, and the Andrist-Stern-Honigberg Trio with cellist Steven Honigberg.  She has performed at Lincoln Center in New York\, the Phillips Collection\, Kennedy Center and Library of Congress in Washington\, Place des Arts in Montreal\, and the Ravinia Festival in Chicago.  With the CBC Vancouver Orchestra and maestro Mario Bernardi\, she presented the world premiere of Andrew P. MacDonald’s Piano Concerto\, composed especially for her and commissioned by CBC Radio. \nAn avid performer of new music\, Ms. Andrist has recorded for more than a dozen record labels and has presented over 75 world premieres as a soloist and with various ensembles. In her many intrepid adventures in modern music\, she has played a wide variety of instruments\, including synthesizer\, harmonium\, celesta\, melodica\, paper accordion\, mbira\, tack piano\, bass drum and slide whistle!  She and the ensembles with which she performs regularly play music by young student composers\, working with the students to hone their craft\, and mentoring them in the composition process. A devoted teacher\, Ms. Andrist lives in the Washington\, DC area\, where she teaches at the Washington Conservatory and the University of Maryland Baltimore County\, and where she is in constant demand as a soloist\, chamber musician\, adjudicator and master class teacher. She spends her summers at a variety of festivals\, including ChamberFest Canandaigua\, where she serves as Co-Artistic Director\, The National Music Festival (new faculty member in 2026)\, The Chamber Music Conference\, Intermuse\, and the Manhattan Music Festival in Shanghai\, China. In her spare time\, she is an enthusiastic cook and hockey fan. \nTo learn more about WCM Piano Faculty Audrey Andrist\, visitwww.audreyandrist.com. \n  \nArdita Statovci impresses with uncompromising dedication to music\, exceptional expressiveness\, and profound artistic integrity. Her playing combines technical brilliance\, emotional clarity\, and a distinctive inner intensity. \nBorn in Prishtina (Kosovo)\, she began piano studies at an early age with Hadije Gjinali and Lejla Pula\, completing multiple grades within a single school year. At fifteen\, she was admitted to the internationally renowned University Mozarteum Salzburg\, where she earned her Master of Arts degree with highest distinction under Christoph Lieske. Postgraduate studies followed at Indiana University Bloomington (USA) with the legendary Menahem Pressler\, and at the Accademia Pianistica di Imola under Boris Petrushansky and Franco Scala. \nAs a soloist\, she has appeared with orchestras such as the Haydn Orchestra Bolzano\, Mahler Chamber Orchestra\, Orchestra Mozart Bologna\, Deutsche Kammerakademie Neuss\, Presidential Symphony Orchestra Ankara\, Albanian Radio Television Orchestra\, SOI – Symphony Orchestra of India\, Kosovo Philharmonic\, and Bad Reichenhaller Philharmonie\, under conductors including Claudio Abbado\, Dennis Russell Davies\, Tito Ceccherini\, Lavard Skou Larsen\, Johannes Kalitzke\, Gustav Kuhn\, and Alessio Allegrini. \nFor her outstanding artistry\, Statovci has received numerous awards and scholarships from institutions such as the Society for Music Theatre Vienna\, Mozart Society Dortmund\, Austrian Federal Ministry of Education\, Arts and Culture\, Piano Academy Birmingham\, Fohn Foundation\, Gotthard-Schierse Foundation Berlin\, Land Salzburg\, Austrian Federal Ministry of Science and Research\, and the International Mozarteum Foundation Salzburg. She is a recipient of the Bösendorfer Prize of the University Mozarteum\, a winner of the Yehudi Menuhin Live Music Now Salzburg auditions\, the Talent of Kosovo Prize\, and prizewinner at the International Rotaract Competition (Spain) and the Ibla Grand Prize (Italy). She is also a Young Steinway Artist.
