Stay tuned! \n  \nBrian Ganz is widely regarded as one of the leading pianists of his generation. \nMr. Ganz shared first prize in the 1989 Marguerite Long Jacques Thibaud International Piano Competition and was third prize-winner of the 1991 Queen Elisabeth of Belgium International Piano Competition. He has appeared as soloist with such orchestras as the St. Louis Symphony\, the St. Petersburg Philharmonic\, the Baltimore Symphony\, the National Symphony (USA)\, the National Philharmonic\, the City of London Sinfonia\, and the Taipei Philharmonic Orchestra. Among the conductors he has performed with are Leonard Slatkin\, Marin Alsop\, Mstislav Rostropovich\, Piotr Gajewski\, and Yoel Levi. \nThe Washington Post has written: “One comes away from a recital by pianist Brian Ganz not only exhilarated by the power of the performance but also moved by his search for artistic truth.” For many years Mr. Ganz has made it his mission to join vivid music making with warmth and intimacy onstage to produce a new kind of listening experience\, in which great works come to life with authentic emotional power. As one of Belgium’s leading newspapers\, La Libre Belgique\, put it\, “We don’t have the words to speak of this fabulous musician who lives music with a generous urgency and brings his public into a state of intense joy.” \nIn January of 2011 Mr. Ganz began a multi-year project in partnership with the National Philharmonic in which he will perform the complete works of Frédéric Chopin at the Music Center at Strathmore. After the inaugural recital\, The Washington Post wrote: “Brian Ganz was masterly in his first installment of the complete works [of Chopin].” His February 2024 recital\, entitled “Chopin the Virtuoso\,” marked the 13th of the series. The next recital will take place on Chopin’s birthday\, March 1\, 2025. \nMr. Ganz is on the piano faculty of St. Mary’s College of Maryland\, where he is artist-in-residence\, and has recently retired after 21 years on the piano faculty of the Peabody Conservatory. He is the artist-editor of the Schirmer Performance Edition of Chopin’s Preludes (2005). Pre-pandemic performance highlights include Chopin’s Piano Concerto No. 2 at the Alba Music Festival in Italy and with the National Philharmonic at Strathmore\, Mozart’s Piano Concerto K. 466 with the Annapolis Symphony\, and Beethoven’s “Emperor” Concerto with the Billings Symphony (now viewable on YouTube). \nIn September of 2019\, Mr. Ganz made his debut as an actor and playwright at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Asian Art\, Freer and Sackler Galleries. The play imagined a dialogue between American artist James Whistler and a musician who explores the connections between Debussy’s music and the artist’s “10 O’Clock Lecture.” Included in the play are portions of the lecture itself along with performances of the music of Debussy and composers under his influence. Most recently\, Mr. Ganz performed Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 4 with the Virginia Chamber Orchestra at the recently opened Capital One Hall in Northern Virginia. He will join the Annapolis Symphony this October both in Annapolis and at the Strathmore Music Center in a performance of Mozart’s Piano Concerto in A major\, K. 488.

SUMMARY:Guest Workshop: Bach on the Modern Piano with Andrew Rosenblum
DESCRIPTION:The Washington Conservatory of Music presents as part of its inaugural Baroque Music Weekend a workshop with acclaimed pianist and harpsichordist Andrew Rosenblum. Andrew first appeared with WCM in concert with master technician violinist Hal Grossman\, and we are thrilled to host his return as a performer and technician himself. \nStay tuned for more information! \n  \nAndrew Rosenblum enjoys a multifaceted career as a pianist and harpsichordist. He has performed with singers and instrumentalists at major venues including Carnegie Hall\, Alice Tully Hall\, and The Kennedy Center. In recent seasons\, Rosenblum joined cellist Seth Parker Woods in recitals at 92nd Street Y\, Dumbarton Oaks\, The Gardner Museum\, The Wallis\, AMP by Strathmore\, and Troy Savings Bank Music Hall. \nRosenblum received critical acclaim for his recordings of the songs of Lori Laitman: Colin Clarke described his playing on Naxos’ 2019 release Living in the Body and Acis’ 2022 release The Ocean of Eternity as “beautifully responsive” and “superb” (Fanfare Magazine)\, while Robert A. Moore\, in his review of Acis’ 2021 release Are Women People?\, described him as “sensitive…wonderfully attentive to the nuances of the pieces” (American Record Guide). \nAs a harpsichordist\, Rosenblum won Second Prize in the 2018 International Bach Competition Leipzig and the 2017 Prague Spring International Music Competition\, where he also won the Czech Music Fund Foundation Prize for his performance of Petr Wajsar’s Harpsycho. He has soloed with Leipziger Barockorchester\, Bohuslav Martinů Philharmonic Orchestra\, Collegium 1704\, and Civic Orchestra of Chicago\, and performed with Opera Lafayette Orchestra\, Music of the Baroque Orchestra\, and Haymarket Opera Orchestra. \nEqually passionate about new music\, Rosenblum performed in “Power in Sound: the Music of Galina Ustvolskaya” in Chicago in 2017\, the “Julius Eastman Portrait Concert” at Chicago Cultural Center in 2018\, and “A Portrait of George Walker” at The Phillips Collection in 2022. His work with Memoria Nova Ensemble and Kaleidoscope MusArt has centered on presenting lesser-known compositions and illuminating connections between musics of different eras. \nRosenblum has been on the Piano Faculty of Heifetz International Music Institute since 2015\, and has been a staff collaborative pianist for Cleveland Institute of Music\, Northwestern University\, and Chicago Symphony Chorus.

SUMMARY:Faculty Chamber Music Series: Concert with Pianists Audrey Andrist and Ardita Statovci

WCM Piano Faculty Audrey Andrist and Ardita Statovci will present a piano four hands concert. \n  \nHailed as a “stunning pianist with incredible dexterity”\, Canadian pianist Audrey Andrist has thrilled audiences around the globe\, from North America to Japan\, China and Germany with her “passionate abandon” and “great intelligence.” Ms. Andrist grew up on a farm in Saskatchewan\, and while in high school traveled three hours one-way for lessons with William Moore\, himself a former student of famed musicians Cécile Genhart and Rosina Lhévinne. She completed Masters and Doctoral degrees at the Juilliard School with Herbert Stessin\, and won first prizes at the Mozart International\, San Antonio International\, Eckhardt-Gramatté\, and Juilliard Concerto Competitions. She is the principal pianist of ROCO in Houston\, Texas and of the PostClassical Ensemble in Washington\, DC. She is a member of the Stern/Andrist Duo with her husband\, violinist James Stern; Strata\, with her husband and Nathan Williams\, clarinet\, and the Andrist-Stern-Honigberg Trio with cellist Steven Honigberg.  She has performed at Lincoln Center in New York\, the Phillips Collection\, Kennedy Center and Library of Congress in Washington\, Place des Arts in Montreal\, and the Ravinia Festival in Chicago.  With the CBC Vancouver Orchestra and maestro Mario Bernardi\, she presented the world premiere of Andrew P. MacDonald’s Piano Concerto\, composed especially for her and commissioned by CBC Radio. \nAn avid performer of new music\, Ms. Andrist has recorded for more than a dozen record labels and has presented over 75 world premieres as a soloist and with various ensembles. In her many intrepid adventures in modern music\, she has played a wide variety of instruments\, including synthesizer\, harmonium\, celesta\, melodica\, paper accordion\, mbira\, tack piano\, bass drum and slide whistle!  She and the ensembles with which she performs regularly play music by young student composers\, working with the students to hone their craft\, and mentoring them in the composition process. A devoted teacher\, Ms. Andrist lives in the Washington\, DC area\, where she teaches at the Washington Conservatory and the University of Maryland Baltimore County\, and where she is in constant demand as a soloist\, chamber musician\, adjudicator and master class teacher. She spends her summers at a variety of festivals\, including ChamberFest Canandaigua\, where she serves as Co-Artistic Director\, The National Music Festival (new faculty member in 2026)\, The Chamber Music Conference\, Intermuse\, and the Manhattan Music Festival in Shanghai\, China. In her spare time\, she is an enthusiastic cook and hockey fan. \nTo learn more about WCM Piano Faculty Audrey Andrist\, visitwww.audreyandrist.com. \n  \nArdita Statovci impresses with uncompromising dedication to music\, exceptional expressiveness\, and profound artistic integrity. Her playing combines technical brilliance\, emotional clarity\, and a distinctive inner intensity. \nBorn in Prishtina (Kosovo)\, she began piano studies at an early age with Hadije Gjinali and Lejla Pula\, completing multiple grades within a single school year. At fifteen\, she was admitted to the internationally renowned University Mozarteum Salzburg\, where she earned her Master of Arts degree with highest distinction under Christoph Lieske. Postgraduate studies followed at Indiana University Bloomington (USA) with the legendary Menahem Pressler\, and at the Accademia Pianistica di Imola under Boris Petrushansky and Franco Scala. \nAs a soloist\, she has appeared with orchestras such as the Haydn Orchestra Bolzano\, Mahler Chamber Orchestra\, Orchestra Mozart Bologna\, Deutsche Kammerakademie Neuss\, Presidential Symphony Orchestra Ankara\, Albanian Radio Television Orchestra\, SOI – Symphony Orchestra of India\, Kosovo Philharmonic\, and Bad Reichenhaller Philharmonie\, under conductors including Claudio Abbado\, Dennis Russell Davies\, Tito Ceccherini\, Lavard Skou Larsen\, Johannes Kalitzke\, Gustav Kuhn\, and Alessio Allegrini. \nFor her outstanding artistry\, Statovci has received numerous awards and scholarships from institutions such as the Society for Music Theatre Vienna\, Mozart Society Dortmund\, Austrian Federal Ministry of Education\, Arts and Culture\, Piano Academy Birmingham\, Fohn Foundation\, Gotthard-Schierse Foundation Berlin\, Land Salzburg\, Austrian Federal Ministry of Science and Research\, and the International Mozarteum Foundation Salzburg. She is a recipient of the Bösendorfer Prize of the University Mozarteum\, a winner of the Yehudi Menuhin Live Music Now Salzburg auditions\, the Talent of Kosovo Prize\, and prizewinner at the International Rotaract Competition (Spain) and the Ibla Grand Prize (Italy). She is also a Young Steinway Artist.
