Currently\, Mr. Grossman is Associate Professor of Violin at The University of Oregon\, Artistic Director of the Northwest Music Retreat\, and serves on the violin faculties of the Aria International Summer Academy and the Marrowstone Music Festival. He was formerly on the violin faculty at the Interlochen Center for the Arts\, Miami University\, and the University of Oklahoma. Mr. Grossman’s students can be found in the New York Philharmonic\, National Symphony\, Detroit Symphony\, Louisville Orchestra\, and in every major music conservatory in the nation\, including Curtis\, Juilliard\, New England\, and San Francisco.\nMr. Grossman is the founder of The Grossman Method©\, a course of study addressing musicians’ health issues. The Method is a unique teaching system that addresses musicians’ health and performance issues within the applied lesson structure. Including a confluence of Yoga\, Feldenkrais Method\, and Alexander Technique\, The Grossman Method has an international presence and has been used by leading performing artists. SUMMARY:Chamber Music Weekend Concert with Hal Grossman
DESCRIPTION:Make a Donation\n\nThis concert brings together musicians participating in the Washington Conservatory’s Winter Chamber Music Weekend\, an immersive program dedicated to learning\, collaboration\, artistry\, and musical exploration. The performance highlights the depth of work developed during the weekend through ensemble rehearsals and coaching from WCM Faculty members. The program also features a special solo performance by Violinist Hal Grossman. Together\, these performances celebrate the power of chamber music as both a collaborative and expressive art form. Violinist Hal Grossman has been hailed by critics for his “tremendous virtuosic technique” and “outstanding artistic sense”. As a concerto soloist\, he has appeared with American\, European\, and Canadian orchestras\, including the Rochester Philharmonic\, the North Carolina Symphony\, Polish Sinfonietta\, the Illinois\, Lima\, Guelph\, and Battle Creek symphonies. Grand Award Winner of the Lima Young Artist Competition and Silver Medalist of the International Stulberg Competition\, Mr. Grossman also received First Prize Awards at the prestigious International Cleveland Quartet Competition and the National Fischoff Chamber Music Competition. He has performed for their Royal Highnesses\, Prince Charles and Princess Diana and his New York Debut at Carnegie Hall received exceptional reviews from the New York Times. Recital appearances have taken him throughout North America and Europe. In the United States he has also been heard on National Public Radio\, WQXI-New York\, and WFMT-Chicago. Mr. Grossman has served as Concertmaster of the Echternach Festival Orchestra in Luxembourg\, lllinois\, Boise\, Lansing\, Kentucky and SaginawBay symphonies. He has been featured at the Casals Festival in Puerto Rico\, Evian (France)\, Orfeo (Italy)\, Aspen\, Lancaster\, Breckenridge\, Fontana\, Great Lakes\, Manitou\, and Garth Newel music festivals. This concert features the Accord Symphony Orchestra\, Maestro Julien Benichou\, and Assistant Conductor Gloria Yin. \nView the concert program here. \nFeatured Soloist\n																												 \nInternationally renowned concert pianist Christie Julien made her solo debut with the National Symphony Orchestra playing Bartok’s Concerto no.3 under Maestro Leonard Slatkin at the Kennedy Center. She recently performed with Eduardo Marturet and the Miami Symphony Orchestra\, Rachmaninoff’s Rhapsody on a theme of Paganini\, and toured China\, Japan\, South America\, and Europe to great public and media acclaim. As an avid chamber musician\, Ms. Julien regularly participates at some prestigious music festivals including Salzburg\, Santa Fe\, La Jola\, Ravinia and Great Lakes. She is a regular jury member of the International piano competitions including Margarita Long in Paris. Christie studied piano with the legendary pianist and pedagogue Leon Fleischer at Peabody Conservatory and obtained a prestigious “Artist Diploma”. In addition\, she holds Yamaha and Lavoisier scholarships awarded by the French government and multiple prizes in solo piano and chamber music. Julien entered at the age 14 the Conservatoire National Superior de Musique de Paris and was awarded first prizes in both solo and chamber music. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Vocal Performance from Xavier University of Louisiana and her Master of Music in Voice from Peabody Conservatory under the tutelage of Denyce Graves and Margaret Baroody. She has performed Leontyne in The Anonymous Lover\, Musetta in La Bohème\, Monica in The Medium\, Frasquita in Carmen\, and Pamina in Die Zauberflöte. Simone runs and performs for her business Black Princess Parties DMV. Simone is the Program Associate at the Washington Conservatory of Music.

Join WCM for our Annual Accord Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition! \nThe Washington Conservatory of Music (WCM) is excited to announce the opportunity to perform with the Accord Symphony Orchestra through their 10th Season Concerto Competition! \nGeneral Requirements \n\nAudition Date and Times: February 28th\, 10am-12:30pm\nAudition Location: Cleveland Park Congregational United Church of Christ\, 3400 Lowell St. NW\, Washington\, DC\nAudition Deadline to Apply: February 23\, 2026\nPerformance Date and Location: April 12\, 3pm at St. Columba’s Episcopal Church in NW Washington\, DC\nWho Can Apply: Instrumentalists and vocalists of all ages\n\nWhat to Perform (read entire section)For both instrumentalists and vocalists\, pieces must have been written before 1925\, and orchestral accompaniments should be performable by standard Romantic Era-sized orchestra or smaller. Pieces should not exceed a total length of 15 minutes.For instrumentalists\, one movement of standard concerto repertoire or major work written for soloist and orchestra.For vocalists\, a complete work for voice and orchestra\, a selection of songs from an orchestrated song cycle\, concert arias\, one or two opera arias from the same opera\, or selections from a larger work (e.g.\, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Exsultate\, jubilate) are all acceptable options. Musical Theater or similar repertoire is not allowed. \nMusic: Provide scores (solo part/piano reduction) for the pianist at the time of application. You may bring your own pianist if you wish\, but the arrangements (including any asked-for fees) are the responsibility of the participant. You must bring neat\, double-sided\, hole-punched copies in a 3-ring binder for the WCM-provided pianist. \nAttire: Business or comfortable daytime recital wear. Concert black is also acceptable. \nApplication Process \n\nApply Online: Complete the WCM’s online application form.\nSubmit Video: Upload a high-quality audition video by the deadline.\nPrize: Perform winning piece with the Accord Symphony Orchestra during the April 12th concert
