SUMMARY:Intro to Irish Music Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Do you love Irish music? Do you play fiddle\, flute\, tinwhistle\, bodhrán\, or sing? Do you have a love for music and a passion for learning? All levels are invited to join us for our Intro to Irish Music Workshop on October 17\, 2026 from 2-6 PM! This $50 workshop will be led by WCM Irish Music Faculty Mitch Fanning (fiddle)\, Tina Eck (flute and tinwhistle)\, Jesse Winch (bodhrán)\, and Eileen Estes (voice). Get to know WCM’s Irish Music program through an informal presentation\, tune teach breakout sessions\, and a happy hour jam session with the Irish Inn Mates at Glen Echo Park’s very own Irish Inn!  \nRegister in advance to reserve your spot here! \nRooted in a deep appreciation for music across different cultures\, we hope to share our love for Irish culture at WCM. Our schedule takes place at Glen Echo Park. From 2:00-3:00 PM\, we will have a welcome program in the Recital Room. From 3:15-4:00 PM in the Recital Room\, we will host breakout sessions by level and instrument that details the process of learning a traditional Irish tune. We welcome players of all levels to join in this fun and celebratory workshop! Finally\, from 4:15-6:00 PM\, we will head to the Irish Inn\, where the Irish Inn Mates will present a Traditional Music performance where students will be invited to join in! We encourage you to bring friends and family free of charge for this performance!

DESCRIPTION:Let’s celebrate the season with music\, costumes\, and community at the Washington Conservatory of Music’s Fall Frolic & Open House\, presented in partnership with Glen Echo Park. Join us on October 31\, 2026 from 1:00-4:00 PM for a delightful afternoon of community and learning at our Open House and joyful performance from 1:00-2:30 PM by the Washington Conservatory Orchestra and the talented young musicians of the Suzuki Academy! In the spirit of Halloween\, we encourage you to don your best costume attire and take part in the costume contest after the performance. Admission is FREE! \nHeld at the whimsical Cuddle Up Pavilion at Glen Echo Park\, this family-friendly event is the perfect way to spend a crisp fall afternoon. Enjoy a mix of classical favorites\, seasonal selections\, and student showcases that highlight the artistry and energy of our musical community. We hope that you come to join us whether you are an adult learner or student learner or simply there to hear some lively music on Halloween day.  \nOur Washington Conservatory Orchestra\, founded in 1996\, celebrates its 30th anniversary this year and has been performing at venues large and small ever since. Our Suzuki program\, built on the value of learning through listening\, pairs nicely with our orchestra as both young and adult learners support each other through combined performance in our musical community.

DESCRIPTION:Kicking off our Faculty Chamber Music Series is internationally acclaimed soprano Esther Tonea and US Navy Band principal harpist Madeline Jarzembak\, both graduates of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. Our Faculty Chamber Music Series are free-will fundraisers for this incredible series and all the conservatory has to offer. Invite your friends and family\, and we hope you enjoy these incredible concerts! Light reception to follow. \n  \nEsther Tonea \nThe San Francisco Chronicle praised Romanian-American soprano Esther Tonea for her “powerful\, gleaming tone\, effortless precision and expressive immediacy” in her rendition of Imogene’s mad scene from Bellini’s Il pirata\, where she displayed the “sublime assurance of an established diva.” Esther is a recent Adler Fellow at San Francisco Opera and Grand Finals Winner of the National Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition. \nMost recently\, Esther performed the roles of Donna Anna in Mozart’s Don Giovanni at Opéra Orchestre National Montpellier\, Rosalinde in Johann Strauss II’s Die Fledermaus at Florida Grand Opera and Washington Opera Society\, Iolanta in Tchaikovsky’s Iolanta and Tatiana in Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin with the Russian Chamber Arts Society\, Marie in Les Mousquetaires au Couvent and Laoula in L’étoile with L’opéra Comique de Washington\, and Juliette in Roméo et Juliette with Bel Cantanti Opera. Recent and upcoming recitals include Romanian recitals with the Nicolae Bretan Music Foundation\, Russian love songs for Valentine’s Day in Love Me\, Love Me Not with her fiancé tenor Dashiell Waterbury and pianist Vera Danchenko-Stern\, A European Christmas with pianist James Sparks\, and recitals with US Navy Band principal harpist Madeline Jarzembak.  \nRecently\, Esther also joined Opéra Orchestra National Montpellier for Brahms’ Ein Deutsches Requiem\, Stanford Summer Symphony and Chorus for Mendelssohn’s Symphony No. 2 (Lobgesang)\, City Choir of Washington for Haydn’s The Creation\, the Santa Rosa Symphony for Mahler’s Symphony No. 2 and the world premiere of Warum hast du Gelitten? by Jonathan Leshnoff\, and Richmond Ballet in two tour performances of Carmina Burana with the Charleston Symphony and Richmond Symphony. She also joined Atlanta Opera for Jake Heggie’s Another Sunrise\, and Wolf Trap Opera as a Filene Artist for the title role of Semele. A frequent collaborator with composer-librettist duo Jake Heggie and Gene Scheer\, Tonea premiered the role of Diana in If I Were You with the Merola Opera Program and workshopped Intelligence as Callie Van Lew with Houston Grand Opera.  \nWhile in her Adler tenure at San Francisco Opera\, she performed the roles of Sister Antoine in Dialogues des Carmélites and Flower in Dream of the Red Chamber\, while also being responsible for leading roles such as Tatyana in Eugene Onegin\, Blanche de la Force in Dialogues des Carmélites\, Fiordiligi in Così fan tutte\, and Marzelline in Fidelio. She has also performed excerpts from Turandot (Liù)\, Ariadne auf Naxos (Prima Donna)\, Idomeneo (Elettra)\, Don Giovanni (Donna Anna)\, Roméo et Juliette (Juliette)\, and Il pirata (Imogene) with the San Francisco Opera and Metropolitan Opera orchestras.  \nTo follow her future engagements\, visit www.esthertonea.com.
