DESCRIPTION:Stay tuned on how to RSVP and apply for the masterclass! \n  \nDr. Alicia Kosack is a flutist\, educator\, and arts administrator whose work brings together performance\, teaching\, and community through thoughtful programming and artistic collaboration. As a soloist and chamber musician\, she is particularly interested in works by women and living composers\, exploring repertoire that expands the traditional flute canon. \nRecent honors include first place in the 2025 National Flute Association (NFA) Low Flute Artist Competition\, winning the 2023 and 2026 NFA Convention Performers Competition\, and third place in the 2025 American Prize in Instrumental Performance. She regularly performs and presents at festivals and conferences\, including the NFA Convention\, the Mid-Atlantic Flute Convention\, the International Low Flutes Festival\, the Music by Women Festival\, and the International Saxophone Symposium. She has commissioned and premiered several new works\, reflecting her commitment to expanding the flute repertoire. \nA dedicated educator with more than three decades of teaching experience spanning private\, community\, and collegiate settings\, Dr. Kosack serves as Adjunct Professor of Flute at York College of Pennsylvania and teaches students of all ages through YCPrep. She is a frequent clinician and presenter who enjoys working with flutists through masterclasses\, workshops\, and educational programs. \nAn active leader within the flute community\, Dr. Kosack serves on the NFA Low Flutes Committee and will begin a four-year term as committee chair in November 2026. She is also a past Vice President of the Flute Society of Washington and former program chair for the Mid-Atlantic Flute Convention. Beyond her performing and teaching\, she serves as Senior Executive Assistant at Arts for Learning Maryland and previously managed the Baltimore Symphony Youth Orchestras. She holds degrees from the University of Maryland\, the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University\, and the Harid Conservatory.

We provide a central gathering place in the DC metro area for French horn players of all ages and abilities to make music together in a supportive community. \nHighlights include hosting and performing with the American Horn Quartet in 2023\, as well as being featured on WETA’s Front Row Washington. SUMMARY:Faculty Chamber Music Series: Concert with Miron Yampolsky\, Cellist
DESCRIPTION:Program and pianist TBD. Stay tuned for more! \n  \nRussian born cellist Miron Yampolsky studied cello with the legendary Mstislav Rostropovich for 16 years\, first at the Central Music School in Moscow and later at the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory. After winning one of the top prizes in the International Chamber Music Competition in Munich\, Germany\, Mr. Yampolsky performed extensively as an orchestra soloist\, in recital\, and as a founding member of the Moscow Piano Trio. Leaving the Soviet Union for Israel\, he performed as a soloist with the Kol Israel Symphony Orchestra and Haifa Symphony as well as in recitals throughout the country. \nAfter immigrating to the United States in 1974\, Mr. Yampolsky was appointed Assistant Principal Cello with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra while also serving as Principal Cello with the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra. He made his New York debut at the Alice Tully Hall to rave reviews. Mr. Yampolsky has concertized extensively all over the United States and performed as a soloist with the Baltimore Symphony\, Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra and many others. He made radio broadcasts at WQXR and WNYC in New York and WGMS in Washington\, DC. Mr. Yampolsky has been invited to perform at the Tanglewood Summer Music Festival and Spoleto USA. He has also performed in local venues such as the Kennedy Center Terrace Theater\, Phillips Collection\, Dumbarton Church\, Lyceum\, the Arts Club of Washington and many others. \nIn 1985\, Mr. Yampolsky helped to found and served as a faculty member of the Washington Conservatory of Music. Later he was invited to teach cello and chamber music at the American University and appointed as a conductor of the American University Symphony Orchestra. As an active promoter of contemporary music\, he was chosen to give a world premiere of Herman Berlinsky’s Sinfonia No.10 for Violoncello and Organ first in Washington National cathedral\, later repeated in New York and San Francisco. Mr. Yampolsky is also a recipient of the prestigious Villa Lobos Memorial Medal for his efforts to promote the composer’s music in the United States. \nMr. Yampolsky’s teaching career spans over 50 years. A number of his students have chosen music as a profession and have continued their education at premiere music schools in the United States and abroad such as Cleveland Institute of Music\, Eastman School of Music\, Peabody Conservatory\, Julliard School\, Indiana University Jacobs School of Music\, Yale University School of Music\, Carnegie Mellon University School of Music\, Royal Northern College of Music (England)\, and others. Chamber ensembles coached by Mr. Yampolsky have won top prizes at many competitions and some were selected to compete in the prestigious Fischhoff National Chamber Music Competition. \nRegardless of their career choice\, students of Miron Yampolsky achieve success in music and academics winning music and science competitions\, performing solo with orchestras\, attending prestigious music festivals and being accepted into the top universities such as MIT\, Stanford\, Williams College\, and Yale among others.

Stay tuned! \n  \nBrian Ganz is widely regarded as one of the leading pianists of his generation. \nMr. Ganz shared first prize in the 1989 Marguerite Long Jacques Thibaud International Piano Competition and was third prize-winner of the 1991 Queen Elisabeth of Belgium International Piano Competition. He has appeared as soloist with such orchestras as the St. Louis Symphony\, the St. Petersburg Philharmonic\, the Baltimore Symphony\, the National Symphony (USA)\, the National Philharmonic\, the City of London Sinfonia\, and the Taipei Philharmonic Orchestra. Among the conductors he has performed with are Leonard Slatkin\, Marin Alsop\, Mstislav Rostropovich\, Piotr Gajewski\, and Yoel Levi. \nThe Washington Post has written: “One comes away from a recital by pianist Brian Ganz not only exhilarated by the power of the performance but also moved by his search for artistic truth.” For many years Mr. Ganz has made it his mission to join vivid music making with warmth and intimacy onstage to produce a new kind of listening experience\, in which great works come to life with authentic emotional power. As one of Belgium’s leading newspapers\, La Libre Belgique\, put it\, “We don’t have the words to speak of this fabulous musician who lives music with a generous urgency and brings his public into a state of intense joy.” \nIn January of 2011 Mr. Ganz began a multi-year project in partnership with the National Philharmonic in which he will perform the complete works of Frédéric Chopin at the Music Center at Strathmore. After the inaugural recital\, The Washington Post wrote: “Brian Ganz was masterly in his first installment of the complete works [of Chopin].” His February 2024 recital\, entitled “Chopin the Virtuoso\,” marked the 13th of the series. The next recital will take place on Chopin’s birthday\, March 1\, 2025. \nMr. Ganz is on the piano faculty of St. Mary’s College of Maryland\, where he is artist-in-residence\, and has recently retired after 21 years on the piano faculty of the Peabody Conservatory. He is the artist-editor of the Schirmer Performance Edition of Chopin’s Preludes (2005). Pre-pandemic performance highlights include Chopin’s Piano Concerto No. 2 at the Alba Music Festival in Italy and with the National Philharmonic at Strathmore\, Mozart’s Piano Concerto K. 466 with the Annapolis Symphony\, and Beethoven’s “Emperor” Concerto with the Billings Symphony (now viewable on YouTube). \nIn September of 2019\, Mr. Ganz made his debut as an actor and playwright at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Asian Art\, Freer and Sackler Galleries. The play imagined a dialogue between American artist James Whistler and a musician who explores the connections between Debussy’s music and the artist’s “10 O’Clock Lecture.” Included in the play are portions of the lecture itself along with performances of the music of Debussy and composers under his influence. Most recently\, Mr. Ganz performed Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 4 with the Virginia Chamber Orchestra at the recently opened Capital One Hall in Northern Virginia. DESCRIPTION:WCM’s Chamber Music Academy presents its first-ever Baroque Strings and Orchestra Workshop! Learn Baroque techniques from some of the DMV’s finest specialists and some of WCM’s amazing faculty members. This weekend includes one-off classes on bowing techniques\, masterclasses and workshops on the music of J.S. Bach\, a chance to participate in a Baroque orchestra\, and a low-pressure community recital to perform some of the baroque pieces you love most to celebrate the birthday of Johann Sebastian Bach! No need to have period instruments. We’re making this event accessible to all string players by performing and working with modern instruments! SUMMARY:Guest Workshop: Bach on the Modern Piano with Andrew Rosenblum
DESCRIPTION:The Washington Conservatory of Music presents as part of its inaugural Baroque Music Weekend a workshop with acclaimed pianist and harpsichordist Andrew Rosenblum. Andrew first appeared with WCM in concert with master technician violinist Hal Grossman\, and we are thrilled to host his return as a performer and technician himself. \nStay tuned for more information! \n  \nAndrew Rosenblum enjoys a multifaceted career as a pianist and harpsichordist. He has performed with singers and instrumentalists at major venues including Carnegie Hall\, Alice Tully Hall\, and The Kennedy Center. In recent seasons\, Rosenblum joined cellist Seth Parker Woods in recitals at 92nd Street Y\, Dumbarton Oaks\, The Gardner Museum\, The Wallis\, AMP by Strathmore\, and Troy Savings Bank Music Hall. \nRosenblum received critical acclaim for his recordings of the songs of Lori Laitman: Colin Clarke described his playing on Naxos’ 2019 release Living in the Body and Acis’ 2022 release The Ocean of Eternity as “beautifully responsive” and “superb” (Fanfare Magazine)\, while Robert A. Moore\, in his review of Acis’ 2021 release Are Women People?\, described him as “sensitive…wonderfully attentive to the nuances of the pieces” (American Record Guide). \nAs a harpsichordist\, Rosenblum won Second Prize in the 2018 International Bach Competition Leipzig and the 2017 Prague Spring International Music Competition\, where he also won the Czech Music Fund Foundation Prize for his performance of Petr Wajsar’s Harpsycho. He has soloed with Leipziger Barockorchester\, Bohuslav Martinů Philharmonic Orchestra\, Collegium 1704\, and Civic Orchestra of Chicago\, and performed with Opera Lafayette Orchestra\, Music of the Baroque Orchestra\, and Haymarket Opera Orchestra. \nEqually passionate about new music\, Rosenblum performed in “Power in Sound: the Music of Galina Ustvolskaya” in Chicago in 2017\, the “Julius Eastman Portrait Concert” at Chicago Cultural Center in 2018\, and “A Portrait of George Walker” at The Phillips Collection in 2022. His work with Memoria Nova Ensemble and Kaleidoscope MusArt has centered on presenting lesser-known compositions and illuminating connections between musics of different eras. \nRosenblum has been on the Piano Faculty of Heifetz International Music Institute since 2015\, and has been a staff collaborative pianist for Cleveland Institute of Music\, Northwestern University\, and Chicago Symphony Chorus.

SUMMARY:Faculty Chamber Music Series: Concert with Pianists Audrey Andrist and Ardita Statovci
DESCRIPTION:Mark your calendars and stay tuned for more program information! WCM Piano Faculty Audrey Andrist and Ardita Statovci will present a piano four hands concert. \n  \nHailed as a “stunning pianist with incredible dexterity”\, Canadian pianist Audrey Andrist has thrilled audiences around the globe\, from North America to Japan\, China and Germany with her “passionate abandon” and “great intelligence.” Ms. Andrist grew up on a farm in Saskatchewan\, and while in high school traveled three hours one-way for lessons with William Moore\, himself a former student of famed musicians Cécile Genhart and Rosina Lhévinne. She completed Masters and Doctoral degrees at the Juilliard School with Herbert Stessin\, and won first prizes at the Mozart International\, San Antonio International\, Eckhardt-Gramatté\, and Juilliard Concerto Competitions. She is the principal pianist of ROCO in Houston\, Texas and of the PostClassical Ensemble in Washington\, DC. She is a member of the Stern/Andrist Duo with her husband\, violinist James Stern; Strata\, with her husband and Nathan Williams\, clarinet\, and the Andrist-Stern-Honigberg Trio with cellist Steven Honigberg.  She has performed at Lincoln Center in New York\, the Phillips Collection\, Kennedy Center and Library of Congress in Washington\, Place des Arts in Montreal\, and the Ravinia Festival in Chicago.  With the CBC Vancouver Orchestra and maestro Mario Bernardi\, she presented the world premiere of Andrew P. MacDonald’s Piano Concerto\, composed especially for her and commissioned by CBC Radio. \nAn avid performer of new music\, Ms. Andrist has recorded for more than a dozen record labels and has presented over 75 world premieres as a soloist and with various ensembles. In her many intrepid adventures in modern music\, she has played a wide variety of instruments\, including synthesizer\, harmonium\, celesta\, melodica\, paper accordion\, mbira\, tack piano\, bass drum and slide whistle!  She and the ensembles with which she performs regularly play music by young student composers\, working with the students to hone their craft\, and mentoring them in the composition process. A devoted teacher\, Ms. Andrist lives in the Washington\, DC area\, where she teaches at the Washington Conservatory and the University of Maryland Baltimore County\, and where she is in constant demand as a soloist\, chamber musician\, adjudicator and master class teacher. She spends her summers at a variety of festivals\, including ChamberFest Canandaigua\, where she serves as Co-Artistic Director\, The National Music Festival (new faculty member in 2026)\, The Chamber Music Conference\, Intermuse\, and the Manhattan Music Festival in Shanghai\, China. In her spare time\, she is an enthusiastic cook and hockey fan. \nTo learn more about WCM Piano Faculty Audrey Andrist\, visitwww.audreyandrist.com. \n  \nArdita Statovci impresses with uncompromising dedication to music\, exceptional expressiveness\, and profound artistic integrity. Her playing combines technical brilliance\, emotional clarity\, and a distinctive inner intensity. \nBorn in Prishtina (Kosovo)\, she began piano studies at an early age with Hadije Gjinali and Lejla Pula\, completing multiple grades within a single school year. At fifteen\, she was admitted to the internationally renowned University Mozarteum Salzburg\, where she earned her Master of Arts degree with highest distinction under Christoph Lieske. Postgraduate studies followed at Indiana University Bloomington (USA) with the legendary Menahem Pressler\, and at the Accademia Pianistica di Imola under Boris Petrushansky and Franco Scala. \nAs a soloist\, she has appeared with orchestras such as the Haydn Orchestra Bolzano\, Mahler Chamber Orchestra\, Orchestra Mozart Bologna\, Deutsche Kammerakademie Neuss\, Presidential Symphony Orchestra Ankara\, Albanian Radio Television Orchestra\, SOI – Symphony Orchestra of India\, Kosovo Philharmonic\, and Bad Reichenhaller Philharmonie\, under conductors including Claudio Abbado\, Dennis Russell Davies\, Tito Ceccherini\, Lavard Skou Larsen\, Johannes Kalitzke\, Gustav Kuhn\, and Alessio Allegrini. \nFor her outstanding artistry\, Statovci has received numerous awards and scholarships from institutions such as the Society for Music Theatre Vienna\, Mozart Society Dortmund\, Austrian Federal Ministry of Education\, Arts and Culture\, Piano Academy Birmingham\, Fohn Foundation\, Gotthard-Schierse Foundation Berlin\, Land Salzburg\, Austrian Federal Ministry of Science and Research\, and the International Mozarteum Foundation Salzburg. She is a recipient of the Bösendorfer Prize of the University Mozarteum\, a winner of the Yehudi Menuhin Live Music Now Salzburg auditions\, the Talent of Kosovo Prize\, and prizewinner at the International Rotaract Competition (Spain) and the Ibla Grand Prize (Italy). She is also a Young Steinway Artist.
