Hailed for his “mastery, precision, and passion”, Dr. Dominic Muzzi maintains a multifaceted career as a concert pianist, educator, and collaborator. Having attained over a dozen top prizes and gold medals in domestic and international competitions, he has received rave reviews for his “masterful tonal control” and “superb musicianship… a tour de force of technical prowess.”
Dominic began playing the piano by ear at the age of three. Shortly thereafter, he began performing locally in his childhood home of central Florida, giving his first full-length public solo recital at the age of eleven. Dominic earned his Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance from Florida State University, and both his Masters and Doctorate from Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music. Over the last decade he has built an international presence; having earned gold medal at the 68th Wideman International Piano Concerto Competition, as well as first prize at the National finals of the Music Teachers National Association’s Young Artist Competition. Dominic was awarded second Prize in the 2022 National Society of Arts and Letters’ Scholarship Competition, advancing to the national finals in Chicago where he was awarded the Robert Milton and Joanne-Dingwell Hanson Prize and Bronze Medal. As a soloist, Dominic has performed widely across the United States and Europe, enjoying overwhelmingly successful debuts with the Shreveport Symphony, The Villages Symphony Orchestra, and Symphony New Hampshire. In 2023, Dominic was invited to return to Indiana University as a guest artist, performing Bohuslav Martinů’s First Piano Concerto with the Ballet Company in IU’s Musical Arts Center. This season, Dominic appeared on the Ruthmere Foundation’s Spring Concert Series, the Verismo Concert Series, and at the Chopin Academy of Atlanta.
In January 2023, Dominic joined “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band, where he currently serves as a pianist. Before relocating to the nation’s capital, Dominic served for two years in the U.S. Army as a keyboard musician attached to the 100th Army Band at Ft. Knox, Kentucky.
As a teacher, Dominic has prepared students for winning auditions at the Jacobs School of Music, The Peabody Institute at Johns Hopkins, The Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music, The San Francisco Conservatory, the Hochschule für Musik und Theater München, and others. His students have been awarded gold medals at regional and state levels, and performed in Carnegie Hall. Outside of music, Dominic enjoys getting outdoors with his wife Maureen and their puppy, Knight.
