Marty Nau

Marty Nau is an acclaimed saxophonist, educator, and ensemble leader known for his distinctive tone, masterful technique, and dynamic artistry. A Wammie-nominated artist, Marty has been recognized for his outstanding contributions to the Washington, D.C. jazz community.

He is a former lead alto saxophonist with the U.S. Navy Commodores and a founding member of the Capitol Quartet. Over his career, he has held lead alto positions with the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra, Dorsey Brothers Orchestra, Bill Potts Big Band, and the Great American Music Ensemble, and has performed with the “Blues Alley Big Band”.

Marty has also played with the National Symphony Orchestra, Richmond Symphony, and Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, sharing the stage with jazz greats including Dizzy Gillespie, Eddie Daniels, Stanley Turrentine, Joe Williams, Rosemary Clooney, Ray Charles, Nancy Wilson, and Maureen McGovern.

A sought-after Selmer jazz clinician, Marty conducts masterclasses nationwide and brings his deep passion for jazz to students at the Washington Conservatory of Music. He directs the Washington Conservatory Jazz Players and teaches saxophone and jazz studies, mentoring the next generation of jazz musicians with excellence and inspiration.
