Jan Mueller-Szeraws

Cellist Jan Müller-Szeraws has pursued music’s power to connect across cultures from his native Chile to Europe and the U.S. He has been featured at festivals such as Rockport, El Paso Pro-Musica, Cape & Islands, Staunton, Sebago Long Lake, and Apple Hill, among many others. As soloist, he has premiered and recorded Bernard Hoffer’s Concerto di Camera II with Boston Musica Viva, performed Shirish Korde’s Lalit 2nd Prism with the Richmond Symphony, and given premieres of concertos by Gunther Schuller, John Harbison, and Chou Wen-Chung. He has also performed major works by Schumann, Bloch, Haydn, Shostakovich, Brahms, Dvořák, and Tchaikovsky with orchestras in the U.S., Chile, and Russia. Müller-Szeraws has served as artist-inresidence at the Jornadas Musicales Internacionales de Invierno in Chile, taught widely, and is currently on faculty at Phillips Academy Andover. A prize-winner at the Washington International Competition, he performs on a 1717 Tecchler cello on generous loan.
