M.M. in flute performance, Northwestern University; B.M. Ohio State University
A product of Fairfax County schools, Rebecca Carey has been fortunate to have had a multifaceted career as a performer, educator, presenter, and adjudicator. She has served in various capacities on a number of local and national boards. She has organized master classes, summer courses, concerts, tours, and appearances throughout the United States for over 20 years. She is the youngest Western flutist to graduate from the Talent Education Research Institute in Matsumoto, Japan (Toshio Takahashi; Dr. Shinichi Suzuki). Besides Charlotte Day, Kathy Jones, and Wally Kujala, her main teachers include Louis Moyse and Jonathan Snowden.
She was a co-presenter and performer at the 51st Annual National Flute Association Convention in Phoenix (2023) for sessions including “Suzuki Flute: The French Connection” and “The Suzuki Method Legacy”. In 2025, she performed four times at the 53rd NFA Convention in Atlanta (two world premieres, a legacy concert honoring Wally Kujala, and as part of the closing Gala concert). In addition to spending time with her family, Rebecca enjoys volunteering and traveling.
