Class focuses on traditional Kerry-style of playing emphasizing drum positioning, stick control, and basic styles. Tune types include jig, reel, hornpipe, slip jig, slide, and polka. Discussion includes definition, and characteristics of Irish traditional music including the history, and role of percussion.
Students must provide their own instrument. More info: jessewinch@hotmail.com. Minimum age 10. Five Tuesday class sessions followed by a social evening and mini-performance on Monday at the Irish Inn at Glen Echo on week 6.
